Introduction: This case study focuses on the design and completion of a security installation project for Dunnes Stores' flagship retail store located in Knocknacarra, Galway. The purpose-built retail unit, spanning 7,100 square meters and opened in 2007, recently underwent a 650 square meter extension. The project aimed to refurbish the existing front of the house ground floor and implement a security system that adheres to PSA 2006:12 Standards.

Products and Services:

1. IP CCTV System: To ensure the store's security, an Internet Protocol (IP) based closed-circuit television (CCTV) system was installed. The system includes 125 fixed cameras strategically placed in both internal and external areas. Additionally, the installation comprises a network video recorder (NVR), a security room workstation, and a security podium. The selected CCTV system is manufactured by Avigilon, a renowned provider of surveillance solutions.
2. Access Control: An electronic access control system was deployed to secure designated areas such as staff entrance doors, the security room, the cash office, and the main communications room. This system enables authorized personnel to access restricted areas while providing seamless integration with the proposed Avigilon CCTV System. ACT Vanderbilt, a trusted manufacturer of access control solutions, supplied the access control system.

Comprehensive Servicing and Maintenance:

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of the security system, Power Right, a Private Security Authority licensed company, conducted comprehensive servicing and maintenance. Routine inspections and testing of all systems were carried out in accordance with industry standards, including PSA 33:2014 for CCTV systems.
